Microsoft freeing up nearly 1 million inactive Xbox gamertags

Bored of your gamertag on Xbox Live? Microsoft is giving you a chance to change it up.

On Wednesday May 18th, Xbox Live Gold members with active subscriptions and at least a one year of gold tenure can switch their gamertag to one of nearly 1 million monikers being released into the wild.

“Many of the best and most desirable gamertags were unavailable… Until now,” Microsoft explained. The gamertags released this week “are from the original Xbox era.” The “accounts never migrated to Xbox 360 and as a result they have been inactive for quite some time.”

Although Microsoft didn’t say what gamertags they will be releasing, it will include:

-Proper names

-Pop culture references (entertainment, sports, gaming)

-Types of food

-Geography and travel

-Science and Technology

-Math and numbers

-Some of the greatest inventions of all time

Once a gamertag has been changed, all the information from the previous gamertag they had would be transported to the new gamertag.

You will be able to change the gamertag with Windows 10 Xbox app or on the Xbox One.

Hackers target Donald Trump, claim to leak his social security number

Hackers describing themselves as an anonymous hacking group claim to have leaked Donald Trump’s personal information; including his social security number.  A Twitter account describing itself as devoted to Anonymous news claimed to leak Trump’s information Thursday, tweeting a link to a video blasting the Republican presidential front runner. A link to a file sharing site posted with the video purports to reveal Trump’s social security numbers and addresses, although the video link says that some information has been on the internet since last year. However, a prominent Anonymous account, which has 1.61 million followers, later downplayed the claim.  “Seems to be outdated information; take it with a grain of salt,” it tweeted. Another Twitter account, which describes itself as a voice of the hacking group, also claimed to leak Trump’s information via a file sharing site Thursday, including a cell phone number.  However, the site was described as “not a credible source” by the prominent Anonymous account, which then added that the information was outdated. The Trump campaign issued a statement saying that the authorities have launched an investigation. “The government and law enforcement authorities are seeking the arrest of the people responsible for attempting to illegally hack Mr. Trump’s accounts and telephone information,” it said. The FBI told FoxNews.com that it is aware of the matter at hand and is working jointly with the U.S. Secret Service. “Because this is ongoing, we are restricted from commenting further,” explained a spokesman, via email. Hacking collective Anonymous has already “declared war” on Trump, recently urging hackers to dismantle the GOP hopeful’s presidential campaign.

7 Secrets of Windows Task Manager every computer user should know

  1. Launching Task Manager

It sounds basic, but a lot of people use more steps than needed to launch Task Manager. In fact, if you were asked to launch it right now, you’d probably hit the handy shortcut CTRL + ALT + DEL  and then select Task Manager from the list of options.

2. More advanced freeze fixing

Everyone was recently told how to fix a frozen computer. More often than not, however, it is a single program that is going to freeze on you. If you wait long enough, Windows will usually give you the option of shutting it down, but who wants to wait?

3. Before doing a full restart

On occasion, you’ll run into the situation where your programs aren’t frozen, but the Windows task bar and folders stop responding. If you wait long enough, sometimes Windows will send you a message that Windows Explorer has crashed and is restarting.

4. Find Program folders

There are times when you need to find the folder where a program or Windows process lives on your hard drive. You could spend many minutes hunting through the hard drive and Program Files and directories. An easier option is to run the program and then open up Task Manager.

5. Keep an eye on performance

Aside from tracking down trouble programs, Task Manager is a great place to keep an eye on your computer’s performance. You can see if a particular program is hogging to many resources, or realize you need to upgrade your RAM or get a faster hard drive.

6. Look up processes online

In Windows Vista and 7, if you want to check out a suspicious process, you need to open up a browser and type the process name to do a search. In Windows 8.1 and 10 simply right click on a process and select “search online” to instantly see what the internet knows about it.

7. Customize Task Manager

By default, Task Manager shows most people what they need to know. However, there are times you might want to know more.

San Francisco vote looms large over Airbnb’s future

Residents of San Francisco are heading to the polls Tuesday to vote on a number of propositions- But the one getting the most attention is Proposition F- essentially a referendum on hometown tech company Airbnb. If passed, Proposition F would limit short term rentals through Airbnb and other rental sites like HomeAway, VRBO, and Flipkey to 75 nights a year; forcing hosts to submit quarterly  reports to the city, and allow neighbors to report violations. Supporters say property owners are renting mainly to tourists, rather than long term renters. Airbnb and allies have raised over $8 million for a “No on F” campaign. Supporters to Proposition F have raised over $1 million.

NASA may have found water on Mars

NASA found something amazing on the planet Mars; they may have found a liquid on Mars. They think it may be water, but no one knows for sure if that is what it is. But NASA have a spectroscopy picture of dark streaks that have been observed on the surface of Mars. Late last week the agency trailed a “major science finding” from its ongoing exploration of the red planet- also being used to appeal to people on social media. They are using this article to appeal to young readers on twitter and Facebook to gain an interest in space exploration

NASA Finds What It Thinks Is Liquid Water On Mars | TechCrunch

The scientists used a spectroscopy technique to analyze the chemical composition of dark streaks (which NASA refers to as Recurring Slope Lineae or RSL) they had previously observed on the Martian surface. These streaks had been noticed to vary following temperature changes on the surface — leading to a hypothesis that the substance was water.

Shameless Self-promotion #770

There are advantages and dangers when job hunting; you have to be careful at what you do, and/or what you tell the people who interview you. Convenience is good for job hunting; online.

A disadvantage is limited job pool; so you most likely will not have  a wide choice of jobs. An advantage is saving money, as to not having to go out and buy a brand new outfit for the interview, you save money and time if you hunt online.

Competition is a disadvantage also. You would not want anyone to steal your opening now would you?

All in all, you should be careful when job hunting online. Be careful who you talk to. Safety online is more important than it seems.

The Three Rules of Humanity

The three rules of humanity are:

1. Through my action or inaction, I will not allow another person to be unhappy.

2. I will strive to be happy as long as my action or inaction doesn’t conflict with law 1.

3. An individual’s  well being can override laws 1 and 2.

The rules of humanity have to do with another person’s well being and how they have a good life. A lot of people don’t understand what others go through or how much words can hurt… Because of this many teenagers/young adults have committed suicide for these reasons.
